Labeling Machines

Wrap Labeling Machines
CTM Wrap labeling machines are designed with production in mind. The CTM “open architecture” approach is ideal for long run products and permits quick changeovers for short run products minimizing costly down time. CTM Wrap labeling machines are designed to withstand the most demanding industrial environments. From the robust construction and user-friendly operator adjustments and control features right down to the industries most durable and versatile label applicators and printer applicators, no other labeling machines compare.

Front and Back Labeling machines
CTM Front and Back Labeling machinies are fully automatic, high quality, competitively priced labeling system designed around the customer’s exact labeling need. The unit is an open frame design that can accommodate any of CTM’s fine line of advanced 360a “touch screen” applicators or 3600PA print and apply units for merge, air blow and tamp blow label attachments. The short pitch, high performance acetal chain allows low friction and dry running on the hard anodized, Teflon impregnated extruded aluminum sideframes. Continuous t-slots provide easy component mounting and adjustability, and all labeler mountings include ball bushing traverse slides as standard.

Bottom labeling machines are available in two configurations. Above left, a dual hugger belt assembly is used to transport products through a top and bottom labeling station. The dual hugger belts provide a positive drive through virtually any method of labeling.

Split belt conveyors convey products over a bottom labeler. Products with adequate mass or products that vary in width are ideal candidates for this method of labeling.

Each method of labeling is somewhat unique and specific to a given range of product sizes, shapes and weights. Both systems are available with a full range of options and accessories to optimize operator efficiencies and ensure complete line integration.

Label Applicators

360a Series Label Applicators
360a Series Label Applicators evolved from the industry standard 360 Series Platform. The 360a can be configured as a merge, blow-on or tamp-blow applicators, 5", 7.5" or 10" widths and each module can also be easily switched to the opposite hand with few or no change parts in a minimum amount of time. All units are stepper motor driven to include State-of-the-art electronics and a “Self-teaching” label sensor. File encryption of the 360a allows for easy “on-site” software revisions and upgrades.

360FFS Form, Fill and Seal Labelers
The 360 Series Label Applicators are the most versatile, high performance industrial duty labeler on the market today. The 360 Series Label Applicator has understandably become the benchmark of labelers in its class due to its rugged and versatile design and standard features that are optional on most competitive machines. This labeler is now available in a form fill and seal (FFS) version. The new 360FFS is designed for most form, fill and seal applications along with those applications that allow for a limited amount of space for the labeler. Application needs change? No problem, the 360FFS has an adjustable snorkel that adjusts the applicator's labeling point from 18" to 30".

360 Series Label Applicators
The 360 Series Label Applicators are rugged, versatile labeler loaded with standard features not found on most other applicators. The 360 can be configured as a merge, blow-on or tamp-blow applicator and each module can also be easily switched to an opposite hand with no change parts in a minimum of time. The 360 is available in 5", 7-1/2" and 10" widths and all units are stepper motor driven and include Dual Microprocessors, State-of-the-art electronics, intelligent control equipped with onboard I/O, and a "Self-teaching" label sensor.

360HS Series Label Applicators
The CTM 360HS Series Label Applicators are rugged, versatile applicator loaded with standard features that are optional on most other applicators. The 360HS Series Applicators can be configured as a blow on, merge or tamp applicator. Each module can also be easily switched from right to left hand dispensing mode. Each applicator is equipped with a 20" non-powered unwind/powered rewind.

Custom Labeling Systems

CTM has manufactured a multitude of custom labeling systems.  Please contact one of our sales staff at 330.332.1800 to discuss the optimal solution to your custom labeling project.

DECORATIVE BOTTLE LABELERDecorative Bottle Labeler

The system shown was designed to label a top shelf Bourbon Bottle. The end user was in pursuit of a specific look that required the application of five labels to each product. The bottle was gated into the labeling area where a leading edge label was applied. Front and back labels were applied in the second labeling station where the bottles were secured by the top hold down belt. A top tamper evident label was applied over the decorative cork top and wiped down the sides of the bottle neck. A complete wrap label was then wrapped around the bottle neck to secure and cover the trailing edges of the tamper evident label.

The tamper evident label and neck labels were applied using a proprietary tooling design developed specifically for this product. Labeling speeds were variable to 45 PPM.

LABELING & BATCH COUNTINGLabeling & Batch Counting

The system shown was designed to label a small shipping container. Each container was labeled with a shipping label that contained variable shipping information. The variable data printed on each label was handled via a loose loop arrangement. Additional product handling was required for labeled products as the packages were shipped both singularly and in bulk. Boxes could be fed through the system one at a time or through a stacker counter that was programmable to various stack heights. A lane divider / router directed boxes or stacks of products to one of two possible loading platforms. Rows and columns of product were then accumulated on the loading platforms by a preprogrammed collating device.

The operating speeds were variable to 60 PPM.

WINE BOTTLE LABELERWine Bottel Labeler

This system was specifically designed for the wine bottling industry. Two modes of operation are required in most wine labeling applications.

Modes of Operation:

  • Single Label Applications
Single labels (front or back) can be applied to various diameter or height wine bottles. Labels can be oriented specifically to physical characteristics, registration marks or existing graphics.

    One applicator required

  • Front & Back Label Applications
Front & back labeling will require front and back labels to be converted in alternating fashion on the same web. As the indexer rotates each wine bottle, the controller will monitor the product’s rotation and trigger the applicator to apply the labels 180 degrees opposite each other.

    One applicator required

Front & back labeling can also be accomplished with two applicators. The front labels would be converted on one roll with the back labels being the product rotation after the first label has been applied.

    Two applicators required

  • Cover Labeling
Cover labeling or re-labeling can be accomplished by sensing the original applied label and applying the new label over the original.  The stepper driven indexer will provide very tight tolerance label placement within + / - 1/32” (some label materials and bottles may cause label placement tolerances to vary).

    One applicator required

Speeds are variable depending on bottle diameters and label lengths.

PAIL LABELING SYSTEMPail Labeling System

The CTM Pail Labeler is a heavy duty labeling system designed for use in industrial production environments where dependable, accurate and trouble free labeling of pails is required. Pail labelers are available with either 360 Series labelers or 3600 Printer Applicators. Fanfold label supply and roll fed label supply configurations are both available.

System Operation:
A Model 360 (apply only) or Model 3600 PA Series printer applicator is positioned "reels up" alongside the product conveyor and includes an air cylinder operated, tilt-out style, o-ring carrier grid to "wipe on" apply labels by contact. Attached to the labeler is an air cylinder operated, short travel, tilt-out vacuum grid, approx. 15" in length, which incorporates several variable speed, stepper motor driven o-ring belts to assist and carry the feed of long, soft labels; muffin fans are used for vacuum generation to hold the dry side of the label against the o-rings to impart travel. A firm felt wiper impresser attached at the end of the grid is to contact the surface of the product to press on the label for initial attachment; the label is attached as it is pulled off the grid by the advancing product. The motorized o-rings are moving during label dispense and are stopped when the leading edge of the label reaches under the apex of the felt wiper; a photoelectric label sensor determines the stopping position and is consistent even with varying lengths of labels.

Closely spaced, parallel handle guide rails (for handles in vertical position) are mounted to just clear the top of each product to maintain in-line orientation keeping the products from rotating out of position during travel to the hold-down belt stabilizer assembly.
